USE POINT Sill IN SiWK TE51 Unique Contest in Progress at Deseret Gym; Prizes for Winners. An interesting- swimming test is being I conducted at tho Deseret gymnasium, known as t he "aquatic championship," which includes tests in all-round swimming, swim-ming, back stroke, breast stroke, free I style, plunge, iliving and live-saving. The 1 1 contestants scoring the highest number i of points when the contest closes June 7 j will bo awarded first place. A maximum j time for each event is sot. in which It s should be made, and one point is deducted ! 1 for every second less than this time. In this manner the best all-round swimmer in tho gymnasium will be brought out. Medals will bo given the three finishing wtth the highest scores. A gold medal for first place has been given by Colonel Joseph Jo-seph J. Paynes, Jr. Following Is the system of scoring: 100 yards 100 points will be given to anyone making the distance In 1 minute. One point deducted for every second slower. 220 yards 100 points will be given to anyone making the distance in 2:45. One point deducted for everv second slower. , 150-yard back stroke 100 points will bo given to anyono making the distance In 2:25. One point will be deducted for every two seconds slower. i 200-yard breast stroke 100 points will be given to anyone making' the distance In Ono point deducted for every second slower. Judged like all Life-saving test 'Entrants must carry someone weighing as much as themselves 30 feet in the water, showing either first, second, third or fifth rescuing methods, lor ducking subject or leaving lllm points will be deducted. Anyone making the distance dis-tance in 3S seconds will get 100 points. One point deducted for every two seconds slower. The contest closes June 7, 1519. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be given winners.
