Show SNAKE RIVER VALLEY RAISING MUCH SEED Special to The Tribune. IDAHO FALLS, Idaho, Sept. 30. The Snake River valley seems to be rapidly becoming the seed bed for the whole western country, as well as some portions por-tions of the east. The Rogers Brothers have several large seed pea warehouses and will ship forty to fifty carloads of seed peas to the big seed houses of the east. Clover seed is also one of the big prod-' ucts. Thousands of pounds of that seed will be shipped to the east. The United States Beet Seed company com-pany has an immense warehouse nearly filled with sugar beet seed and the local sugar company raised 700 acres of seed the present season. There are thirty-one sugar companies Interested in this company and it is expected ex-pected to furnish all the seed required west of and including the state of Michigan. Michi-gan. W. K. Wltenhalter, who has raised beet seed in Canada, Michigan. Colorado and Utah, is in churge of the work. During the present season the company has paid out $17,700 for land rentals, $75,-000 $75,-000 for labor, $35,000 for mother seed, 311,000 for improvements, $n"00 for cleaning clean-ing machinery, and will spend $10,000 in the preparation of land during the fall. The two companies combined have now nearly 2.000,00i pounds of seed on hand for next season. In addition to the above, the United States government has arranged to locate lo-cate a man at this point for the purpose of making Investigations and breeding seed. Two tracts of land, one on each side of the river, have been secured for making these experiments. |
