Show :T0 EXPEND LARGE AMOUNT ON ROADS i "' Requisition Made by State on the Government for $40,982. MUCH WORK IN VIEW Under the Law Utah Will Expend Same Amount on' Thoroughfares. Requisition has been made by E. Ii. Morgan, state road engineer of Utah, for the $40,082 offered by the federal government to improve highways iu and adjacent to national forest reserves. The only condition is that the state of Utah must appropriate n like amount. As the result of a series of conferences confer-ences with federal forest officials and residents in the districts affected, the following appropriations have been made by the state road engineer: Logan -Garden City road, by government, govern-ment, $15,001); by state, $10,000; from private sources, $1000. In addition the city of Logan will build two miles of road and Garden City five miles, independent inde-pendent of state or government-aided highway. On the Sevier ford project, twenty-three twenty-three miles will be built at a cost of $10,000, of which amount half will be appropriated by tho government and a similar amount by the state. Will Expend $4000. On the road from the La Salle country coun-try to the Colorado line, sixteen miles will be constructed to cost $4000. The state and federal government will divide the cost. The forty-four miles to bo improved on the Castlcgatc-Duchesne project will be met equally by tho state and the federal fed-eral government." The amount is $6000. The road through the Panguitch-Tropic Panguitch-Tropic country contains 29.5 miles. Six thousand dollars will be spent on tho work to be doue this year. The state and federal government will divide the cost. The Ephraim-Orangeville project is forty-three miles long. This road connects con-nects the Sevier and Green river basins. The cost, $20,000, will be met in equal amounts by the state and foderal governments. gov-ernments. Other Expenditures. The Daniels canyon! road, sixty-two miles lougj extends from Heber to i'u it-land. it-land. This is the main state highway from Provo to the timber and forage sections of the forest reserves. On this stretch this year there will be expended $4000, this cost to be shared equally by the state and federal governments. The road between Huntington and Fair view consists of the connecting link between the two highways which it crosses. It also opens the road to the coal beds in the national forests. Teiu thousand dollars will be jointly spent, i placing thie road in proper condition, as the forestry service desires. The Cedar lake to Duck lake road is to have $10,000 spent on twenty-two miles of its length. The road will open the government coal beds and grazing lands to ranchers. The expense in this case will be equally shared by the state and federal governments. |
