There are but few localities bet ween On-: ft pa ami the Pacific coast on the route of the Unjoin highway where artual ronFtru'-tive endeavor en-deavor has not heen carried on durinc the current year, tending to iir.woe the transcontinental road. The west ern states take a justifiable pride in comparing compar-ing the volume and extent of the work done on their section of this popular thorouphfare with that completed in the east. The work In general hns been that of grading the road, sti-aitjMenins: it, building bridges and i;lverts. hiving gravel and widening where necessary. It Is estimated that Nebraska alone will spend during 1016 some Si'.i'OO for this purpose. A great deal of work Is being done in Wyoming, where concrete bridges are being erected in Albany county, and a new cut-off is being comuleted between Walcott station and Medicine Bow. More than fifteen small bridges have been erected In Sweetwater county on the Lincoln Lin-coln highway this year. Unity county has graded every foot of the route and is now marking the entire coimly at county expense. The traveler approaching Salt Lake City from the Wyoming lino will travel a splendid thoroughfare, at some places thirty -six feet wide, making the Lincoln highway, through Kcho canyon particularly, particular-ly, a boulevard. From Salt Lake City west to the California state line, varying vary-ing road conditions are found, ranging from the natural boulevard near Kly, Nevada, Ne-vada, to the heavy going near the Fallon sink in Churchill county. It is at this last-named point that the Lincoln Highway High-way association will undertake the work of improvements, bringing funds from outside sources to the aid of Nevada and Churchill county and the solution of this road problem. California's roads are in i perfect condition. |
