Show JAMES R. GARFIELD TALKS TO WOMEN Confers With Suffrage Leaders and Proiniiieut Progressives; Is Making Effort to Conciliate BuU Moose. James R. Garfield, head of the women wom-en 's vote bureau of the Republican national na-tional western headquarters at Chicago, stopped in Salt Lake a few hours yesterday yes-terday for a couferonce with the Utah Republican women leaders and leaders of the Progressive party. He left at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon for Reno. While here M r. Garfield arranged with the Republican women 's state committee as to the national speakers they desired and the literature for distribution dis-tribution in the canse of the Republican Republic-an party. Also he found time to confer con-fer with some of the former Bull Moose leaders with reference to an affiliation with the Republican party. He was assisted as-sisted in his efforts in this direction by Frank B. Corrick, Progressive national committeeman from Nebraska, who is touring the west on a peace-making mission. Mr. Garfield expressed himself as well pleased with the outlook for the Republican party iu all states where women have the right of suffrage. In fact he declared he was well pleased with the outlook for the Republican national na-tional ticket throughout the country. "Ohio was on the doubtful list for a time, ' ; he declared, ' ' but there is no doubt now. It's going for Charles E. Hughes. So is Illinois and all other equal suffrage states if the reports we have received at headquarters may be taken as a criterion. " In addition to rounding up the women wom-en 's vote of the west Mr. Garfield is using his influence to bring stray Progressives Pro-gressives back to the G. O. P. fold. |
