Show SHAFT RUS IN ORE TO THE LIME WALLS Unusual Formation in tho Mendn, Near Pioche, 2Tev., Values Averaging Aver-aging S28.50 in Gold. CALIENTES, May 5. W. B. Castle, an assayer living here, has been pros-poctlng pros-poctlng and sampling ore in the country coun-try about ten miles west of Plocho and brings back flattering reports from that section. Among tho best looking properties which ho examined and samplod is the Menda, on which thcro Is a 700-foot shaft, which shows a peculiar and unusual un-usual formation. Tho shaft being entirely en-tirely in oro between llmo walls. The values run In a granite formation and average $28.60 in gold, ten ounces silver and 14 per cent lead carbonates. Throughout tho last 100 feet there aro five feet of ore of these values, which have not yet been cross-cut to ascertain the extent of the ore body. There are more than 300 tons of this oro on tho dumps nnd thousands of dollars' worth of ore in sight. The Highland Mary, owned by Bamberger Bam-berger and others, lies in tho samo district dis-trict and while not yet opened up at depth shows from three to forty feet of ledgo on tho surface going $11.75 in gold, thirteen ounces sliver and 10 per cent lend. This claim is to be opened up with a 700-foot tunnel which will bo run entirely en-tirely through tho hill on which the cropplngs show up. There are soveral ledges crosscutting tho claim und aver age assays show values 01 $14.10 gout, three ounces sliver nnd 20 per cent lead. The Happiness and Prosperity, In which Mr. Castle is Interested, join the Highland Mary and show a continuity of the ore bodies of the Highland Mary. On those claims are three distinct ledges from three to sixty foot In width assaying about $7 In gold and silver on the surface, Tho ore lies between lime walls and Is a slllcious, honey-combed ore. Mr. Castle says that there is scarcely a claim In the Highland district that cannot bo worked to profit If the old Raymond-Ely smelter at Plochc should be started up again, as there Is an abundance of high-grade ore In sight, sufllcient to keep the smelter running constantly nnd with plenty of timber and water for treating the ore. a W. X Manager Wells arrived In Callentes today and went on to the front to inspect in-spect the progress of advance work. He will return to Salt Lake tomorrow. a Joe Nuttal received some fine samples of black Jack and bromide of silver oro running $S0 to the ton from his claims three and a half miles north of camp. ft o 0 Shcmwell and Devesoe encountered a small vein of galena ore in their property prop-erty In the Chief district, six miles north of camp, and are prosecuting development de-velopment work with Increasing values at depth. The owners of the Venus claim, one-quarter one-quarter mile south of camp, are much elated over good assays from their clulm. a J. A.
