Show Children Stricken With grange Malady Seven Die From MysteriouB Disease in New York, nnd Dootors Aro Puzzled. NEW YORK. May 6. Seven children have died within the past few days and many others are suffering from a new die-ease die-ease which has appeared in the neighborhood of Madison avenue and One Hundred and Fifth street. At least twenty cases are reported from one hospital. hos-pital. The doctors have been wholly unable to diagnose the disease, but they believe it to be due to germs arising from the walls of old tenements, the lower floors of which are being rebuilt into stores. The walls, ceilings and floors are being scraped or torn down and In the dust thus raised the germs appear to germinate. The symptoms of the new disease arc headache, lassitude, rapidly developing fever and usually death within twenty-four twenty-four hourB. The Health department Is now Investigating the matter. |
