Show HEARST WINS IN WASHINGTON Seven of Delegates Selected Are Favorable Fav-orable to Him, and Three Against. OLYMPIA. Wash., May 5. Tho selection selec-tion of a delegation to the Democratic Demo-cratic National convention, seven of whom are considered favorablo to the candidacy of William Randolph Hearst for President, and thrco opposed, and the adoption of resolutions dealing with national Issues and containing an Indorsement of ox-United States Senator George S. Turner of Spokane tor Vice-President, Vice-President, constituted tho work of tho Democratic Stato convention, which closed its labors at 7 o'clock this evening. Last night and up to tho hour of permanent per-manent organization, it appeared that a contest ovor tho indorsements to bo obtained ob-tained in tho convention must bo carried out on tho floor of tho convention, but when the test camo cooler counsel prevailed pre-vailed and a compromise programme was carried through with little friction. The Hearst mn. who had been striving for a definite instruction for their candidate, candi-date, contented themselves with a majority major-ity of tho delegation to St. Louis absolutely abso-lutely unpledged as to President, but tied to a unit rule, while tho Turner men accepted ac-cepted a strong Indorsement of Turner for Vlco-Prosldont without a deflnlto tie-up tie-up to any Presidential candidate. Tho resolutions Indorse the national platforms of 1SCJ and 1900 and Insist on the nomination of candidates In sympathy therewith. The National Administration is consured for alleged extravagance and corruption In Its departments and for embroilment em-broilment in Old World controversies Tho resolutions demand a cessation of "militarism, "mili-tarism, imperialism and colonialism," and call for an Income tax and Inheritance tax, destruction of trusts, removal of unnecessary un-necessary tariff walls. They express confidence con-fidence In the capacity, fidelity and integrity integ-rity of W. J. Bryan. Tho delegation elected to the National convention follows: R. W. Starr, W J. Byham. M. M Godman. E. C Million, John Y Terry. L- C. Gllman. Frank B. Cole, Henry Blackman, Frank Hogan and A. J. Splawn. |
