Show Cols a Wide Swath in Bawkeye Safe. Number of Buildings in the Vicinity of (Vleriden Totally Total-ly Demolished. Cloudburst Follows the Wind, nnd Much Damage Resulted; Traffic Completely Blocked. CHEROKEE, la.. May 5. A tornado which passed through this (Cherokee) (Chero-kee) county today destroyed several sev-eral houses and barn3 in the vicinity vi-cinity of Merlden. ' The buildings were totally demolished, but no 'lives were lost. A severe wind blew here during the progress of the storm that did the damage at Merlden, (Which Is six miles north of here; but no damage was done In the Immediate vicinity. The tornado which1 struck Merlden swept a path forty rods wide and a mile long. No lives were lost and nobody no-body was seriously Injured. Following the wind-storm a small cloudburst struck north of Cherokee, doing considerable damage. Illinois Central tracks on the Sioux Falls branch were badly washed out, completely com-pletely blocking traffic: Telegraph und telephone wires were badly damaged. The tornado that -struck Merlden passed east, taking a few buildings in its path. No one has been reported injured in-jured or killed. |
