Show Little Orphan Alien Held at Ellis Isle Seven-Year-Old Boy Detained, and the Case Is Referred to Washington. NEW YORK, May 5. A newsboy waif who has had two free rides across the Atlantic is being held at Ellis fc?land by the Immigration officials. They havc been compelled to refer his case to the department at Washington, because It lack? precedent. The ladr Samuel Morganlander, Is 7 years old. His parents brought him here from Germany and both father and mother died some time ago. The child made enough money by selling newspapers to sustain life. About a month ago he wandered aboard a French steamer to get warm and, lying down in the steerage, fell asleep. When he awoke the ship was far at sea and I he was ordered to get up for his meal. Apparently the ofllcers did not discover that the child was a stowaway. At Havre Ha-vre ho went ashore and thc United States Consul-General got him a job In a restaurant until the next French liner sailed. The vessel brought him back, but he is destitute and an alien, so the Immigration officials held him up pending pend-ing Instructions. |
