On figures compiled by the city engineer's engi-neer's office, showing an estimated daily shortage of 4,000.000 gallons in Salt Lake's water supply, City Commissioner C. Clarence Clar-ence Xeslen, head of tho waterworks department, de-partment, imposed yet more stringent sprinkling regulations yesterday. Beginning this morning, lawns may be sprinkled only four days each week, Sun-riavs, Sun-riavs, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Satur-days. The schedule for sprinkling is also changed as a means of improving the pressure in the water system. The regulations regu-lations read: "Beginning .luly 7 lawn sprinkling wiir be permitted only four days per weel Sundays, Tuesdays. Thursdays and Saturdays. . "To improve pressure during sprinkling hours, districts throughout the city will be changed as follows: "All premises on the east side and the south side of any street will sprinkle only in the mornings .""om t to S a. m. All premises on the west side and ilic north side of any street will sprinkle in "Since the east and south sides are generally shaded more in the morning and the other sides in the. evening, this arrangement should be more effective. "Persons living on diagonal streets will follow the same rule according to the nearest cardinal direction. "Not more than thirty minutes of sprinkling sprin-kling per dav for 100 square yards of lawn will be permitted. This means that for a lawn in front of an ordinary residence resi-dence sprinkling should not require more than one-half hour. "In order to cover the lawns satisfactorily satisfac-torily the nozzle should be held, so far as possible, m the hand; use of hose without a nozzle is strictiy against the ordinance. "Trees should be watered regularly to protect them. "Lawns will require less water if cut les frequently and blades of mower adjusted ad-justed so grass will not be cut too short. Allow grass to grow long and it will protect pro-tect roots f i om heat." |
