Show BOIEILE WATER DiSTRICTIIIZEs! Irrigation Unit May Be Part of Weber-Provo River Project. Application for the use of seventy second feet of water from the Jordan i river, supplemented by another appli- I cation for seventy second feet from I Utah-lake, was filed by a committee of fanners yesterday as trustees of the ft proposed Bonneville irrigation district. The signers of the application are . H. S. Joseph, J. Fred Ouell and H. B. 5 Parkin. The water from Utah lake is i desired simply as a supply in case the -' Jordan should not be able to furnish ; the required amount of water during ; the dry season. Pumps and canals are fc to be used as diversion works. s The applicants take particular pains to aver that there is no connection 1 between this application nor the fanners fann-ers of the district, and the application I i filed some weeks ago by YY. A. Btumm. ! j; It is declared that, though the lands ; mentioned in ..Mr. iStiunm 's applicatiou j f include thoseMnvned by the present ap- 1 t, jilicants. the latter have not authorized Mr. Stuium to represent them in filing j j his aplication. 1 ; The btumm application was for 100 second feet, to be used iu suppiving l v.ater to J0,0ti0 acres, though the town- t. ships and sections named in the Stuiiim i ,t application did not total quite that j ;, amount. The Stumm application also was for I : water to be pumped from the Jordan I lor the .benefit of the lands in the south ., end of Davis countv. Jn the present in- stance it is assertcil that the water filed on yesterday is to be used in irrigating 5000 acres. The later application is another step ' in a movement to organize with all ? speed the irrigation district at the f south end of Davis county. Anticipating approval of the application appli-cation by the state engineer, teams are already at work on the site of the pro- posed diversion works, under Fred CLev- I erly. The most easterly branch of the Jordan is to be used for the supply. z The farmers interested, it is said, have already provided the money nee- 1 ft essary for the preliminary surveys and j t for compliance with the irrigation dis-j trict law. An election will be required, j authorized by the county commission- j t; ers. The law requires a petition . of fifty water users in a district before " it may be formed. In the present in- stance a petition signed by 500 names V of water users is said to be ready for presentation to the county commission- ers. E It is said that the Bonneville district L may form a unit in the district to be p formed for the proposed AVeber-Provo r river project, and will not interfere ft with the development of the larger plan. |
