Show Viewmont soccer wins nailbiter By JOHN W.CANNON VIEWMONT HIGH - The Viewmont High boys soccer team advances to the State Tournament after winning a real nailbiter against East last week. The score was tied 1-1 at the end of regular play so the game was decided by a sudden death shoot-out. Rotating back and forth, each team receives five penalty kicks and whoever makes the most is declared the winner. Viking backup goalie Josh Carmack blocked two of East's attempts, and since Viewmont View-mont made all of their first four attempts, at-tempts, the Vikings were declared the winners. 'We spent the last four weeks practicing on penalty kicks. The ones who concentrate on the little things often will be the champions," said coach Roger Cushing. 'Little things make a difference. Our kids were in better shape. East was running out of air and water. We completely dominated in the second half. We just couldn't get it through the net," said Cushing. The Vikings will play Hillcrest at Hillcrest Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. "They beat us in a pre-season game," said Cushing. "However, we didn't have our leading scorer, Nick Berry, that game. We were lost without him," he said. "Nick is very talented, and he has really improved this year. He has realized that he can't do it all himself. He is much more coachable and has learned to be unselfish and rely on his teammates. team-mates. It's important that we main-, tain our passing game going into the State Playoffs,' concluded Cushing. Bishop Cook is suffering again from his old troubles and is confined confin-ed to his bed. May 9, 1902 The weather man reports for the month of April ten cloudy days, ten clear and ten partly cloudy.
