Show Area health students take top honors in competition KAYSVILLE-Davis Applied Technology Center students dominated the 1990 State Health Occupation Student Association (HOSA) Competition which was held recently at Weber State. High school students from throughout Utah who are enrolled in health occupations classes were eligible to compete. Competition categories were all related to the field of health occupations. Nearly half of the state winners were from DATC classes that are taught at Humana Hospital Lakeview Hospital and at the Davis Applied Technology Center in Kaysville. HOSA Bowl: second place, Kristen S medley, Steve Coleman, Justin Smith and Russ Rampton, all from Layton; third place, Annie Whittaker, Sheldon Marumoto, Larry Fife and Bryce Bishop, all from Layton. Prepared speaking: second place, Jennifer McMullin, Viewmont; third place, Robert Kuralt, Clearfield. Clear-field. Extemporaneous speaking: second se-cond place, Monica Painter, Clearfield; Clear-field; third place, Russ Rampton, Layton. Job seeking skills: five of the eight finalists from DATC included, Gina McQuade, Clearfield; Lisa Brough, Davis; LeLaine Bowers, Layton; Becky Bessinger, Layton; and Monica Francis, Clearfield. Parliamentary procedures: third place went to Susan Carlson, John Tanner, Lisa Patillo, Kim Olsen, Noelle King, Travis Wallace and Tami Matthews, all from Clearfield. Vocational Excellence Award finalists were Gina McQuade from Clearfield and Lori Stoppard from Layton. Sarah Kulbacki was elected vice president of the Utah HOSA. classes while they are in high school, but the classes give both high school and college credit. Most students are planning on entering a health care profession after high school graduation and further training. State HOSA winners are: CPRFirst Aid: first place, Samantha Yaunt and Sarah Kulbacki, Clearfield; second place, Jodi Topham and Steve Olson, Davis; third place tie, Justin Rick and Janelle Clark from Layton and Davis respectively and Lynda Bridges and Dawnette Poulsen, Clearfield. |
