Bountiful' s first game . is slated for today at 3:15 p.m., : while Woods Cross will play at 7 ;, p.m. tonight (pairings as of Mon-,1 Mon-,1 day's press deadline). - BOUNTIFUL 1 UINTAH 0 M : The Braves hosted Unitah at Millcreek Junior High Friday afternoon, after-noon, and the finesse-minded Bountiful Boun-tiful team struggled a bit with the physical Utes. As coach Dave Wigham said afterwards, "We're more of a skills team, and Uintah just kind of runs and bumps." Still, Bountiful dominated the game and finally broke through when Trent Layland scored about 10 minutes into the second half. Bountiful also got great keeping in goal from Billy Kendrick, who made two great saves and stopped several other shots. Layland 's goal came after a great cross from Sean Bromley. Bountiful will likely meet the winner of Friday's Skyline-Granite game in Wednesday's first round. WOODS CROSS 6 OGDEN 0 At Woods Cross Friday afternoon, after-noon, the Wildcats got two quick goals, then followed with four more scores in the game's final eight minutes to blow away the Tigers. Woods Cross took a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game when Corby Egan scored on a pass from Matt Cosper. Cosper tallied himself at the 1 0-minute mark, and the Wildcats led 2-0 at the half. Ogden and Woods Cross battled on even terms for most of the second se-cond half, though the Wildcats thoroughly dominated the shots on goal (38-8 for the game). With eight minutes left, Brett Linton scored on an assist from Cosper. Three minutes later, Troy Stones took a pass from Linton and tallied, and Stones scored two minutes later on an assist from Egan. Linton scored after a pass from Marcus Rhoton in the game's final seconds. Woods Cross earned it's tenth shutout in 17 games this year. The Wildcats have outscored their opponents op-ponents 57-7 so far on the season. Wednesday's first round winners will play Thursday, with the state final slated for Friday evening. Because of the introduction of two new girls' sports this school year, the state soccer tournaments are all smgle-elimination this year. 1 The Wildcats celabrate after scoring their first goal.
