'Sanpete Scenes: A Unique Tour of Utah's Heart" will be conducted by the Utah State Historical Society on Saturday, May 26. The tour will leave from the Woods Cross K-Mart K-Mart at 7 a.nx ' The morning will include an interpretation in-terpretation of the Utah landscape from Salt Lake to Ephraim and a taste of Utah's Nordic past at the Scandinavian Jubilee. This annual event frequently includes native dress, dancing and foods among other activities. A visit to the 1871 United Order Co-op building currently under restoration, res-toration, and Canute Peterson's federal fed-eral style central-hall house will be included in a superb sampling of architectural styles from Utah's past. : The afternoon will be enjoyed in the rural ambiance of Spring City's National Register Historic District Cream-colored limestone homes against a backdrop of spring greens and lambs romping in the pastures before the annual mountain irrigation irriga-tion are visual pleasures unique to this tour and time of year. A rare inclusion will be visits to the homes of several well known artists ar-tists on the annual historic homes tour. Capping the day will be a local turkey barbecue as only the natives can do it here in the heart of Utah's turkey-producing region! Bountiful resident, Gary Peterson, Peter-son, and Ben Bennion, co-authors of 4,Sanpete Scenes: A Guide to Utah's Heart and geographers and lecturers on the American landscape land-scape will host the tour. "Sanpete Scenes' won the J.B. Jackson prize for the best book on American popular geography last year. Only on this one day of the year can visitors sample the colorful Scandinavian celebration in Ephraim and the interiors of so many of the splendid historic homes of Spring City. Also unique this year will be at least one or two resident artists homes previously unopened to the public. Rarely on more than this one day of the year can the public sample local specialty Scandinavian and turkey dishes usually reserved for wedding feasts and family gatherings. Participants will have some flexibility to suit their pace and interests. in-terests. Walking tour guides will be available for the more vigorous, while all major sites will be served by the bus. Beat the rush to decorate your family graves and join us on this unique heritage tour. Your guides will also draw to your attention some of the rich symbolism of the cemetery landscape and headstone art Come sample the cultural and geographical hearts of historic Mormon country! The tour will depart promptly at 7 a.m. near Woods Cross K-Mart at 2600 South and 1-15, then stop at the Utah State Historical Society, 300 Rio Grande in Salt Lake City before 7:30 a.m. (A stop may also be made at 8:15 a.m. at the Provo Memorial Park at Center and 600 West.)
