Show La Leche League honored a living example that individuals can make a difference in the world. Seven busy mothers seeking information infor-mation have changed the way mothers worldwide nurture their infants. in-fants. The "Nights of 100 Stars ! IE" echoed what the mothers of Utah have known for 25 years. La Leche League of Utah announced an-nounced that the organization was honored during the worldwide telecast of "Night of 100 Stars IH" May 21 when Marian Tompson, one of La Leche League's Founders, received an award during the achievement segment of this three-hour entertainment special. La Leche League International has 3,000 groups in 49 countries offering information and encouragement en-couragement to those women interested inter-ested in breastfeeding. The organization was founded in 1956 by seven women who were seeking information and support for nursing their babies. Information about breastfeeding was almost nonexistent, as the incidence in-cidence of breastfeeding at that time was 17 percent in the United States. Today more than 61 percent of new mothers in the United States are choosing breastfeeding and that increase in-crease has been attributed to the work of La Leche League. La Leche League of Utah was founded in 1965. Accredited leaders lead the monthly discussion meetings which focus on all aspects of breastfeeding. The Davis County group meetings are held on the second se-cond Thursday evening of each month in Centerville.
