Show r West Bountiful to design new master plan WEST BOUNTIFULMayor Carl Johnson is eager to start the necessary work to produce a new master plan for his city. To as si st w ith this project, Johnson has hired Clark Cordner, a BYU student completing an internship intern-ship in public administration. The city is in the final stages of completing formal application with the federal government for a Community Com-munity Development Block Grant (CDBG) that will provide $20,300 to use toward the creation of the city's new master plan. Mayor Johnson has given Cordner Cord-ner the assignment of managing the specifications of the CDBG application applica-tion and contract A proper master plan will oudine the goals and priorities of the city and will be a guiding document for everything the city does for the next 20 years. The mayor wants proper planning to be an ongoing concern for city leaders, said Cordner. "One of the things we are concerned con-cerned about is that adequate water supplies are available to the areas of the city that are to be developed,' said Cordner. This will be an aspect of the new master plan. According to the CDBG applica- tion prepared by the city, the present pre-sent master plan of West Bountiful City, adopted in 1978, is inadequate with respect to growth and its impact im-pact on low and moderate income households. In order to complete a comprehensive com-prehensive city-wide master plan, Cordner will be in charge of collecting collec-ting physical, social and economic data about the city. He will also coordinate co-ordinate and implement public opinion opi-nion surveys to determine the concerns, con-cerns, opinions and desires of city residents. The new master plan will contain the elements of mapping, environmental envir-onmental and demographic analysis, analy-sis, land use, economic base, CONTINUED ON PG. 2 Master Plan CONTINUED FROM PG.1 transportation and circulation, public pub-lic facilities and utilities and social environment. The final product will be a completely com-pletely rewritten master plan that will include changes to the existing zoning codes to implement the goals and policies of the new plan. Cordner expects the project to be completed within the 1 8-month : time frame allotted in the contract with the federal government, : A copy of the completed master : plan will be available to the public and will continue to be reviewed : and updated as the city develops. |
