Show PLi 10 OPERATE- li UTAH PLACER FIELD Uintah County Sands to Be Deprived De-prived of Gold hy Local Operators. Nearly every one is willing to concede con-cede the greatness of Utah as a mining min-ing state, the world outside of Utah being even more generous than Utah herself in its expressions of admiration, admira-tion, but it is possiblo that not ono out of fivo inhabitnats of tho stale realize re-alize that within tho bordors of our state there is as likely a looking gold placer section as tho country affords. 'Ivlondikes draw tho thousands of men and millions of capital mainlj on account ac-count of tho distance from home. Now that the Klondike section, and the Yukon portion of Alaska, aro pouring out their millions of dollars a year in gold, little is ever mentioned about gold mining in the far north. Tho gloss has worn off. California je noted as a placer stale, even yet. and it is said that 12 cents gold per yard is considered pretty good pay dirt in the 'stale along tho Pacific Pa-cific coast. But dowu in Uintah county, Utah, is a placer Held whore the averages aver-ages are between ,20 and 30 cents gold to the yard, aud nothing in the world but tho lack of capital intelligently applied ap-plied to make this field answer with ro-sulls ro-sulls has kept it back. In California thero are agriculture interests to bo reckoned with, but in Utah there is as yet little else but desert and carved and barren hills to enter objection to placer mining, while Green River affords all the water man can demand for washing the yellow metal from the sands along its bauks. As near as can be gathered from reliable, re-liable, sources of information, tho field in Uintah count is from one and a half to two miles in wi'dth, and from eight to nine miles in length. It is thought that much of the gold deposited depos-ited along the Green river comes from the nearby Utah hills, for it is coarse gold, showing often little effects o travel. But Green river undoubtedly draws extensively on the hills of Montana Mon-tana and Wyoming, in order lo lay in the lap of Uintah county, Utah, its golden gold-en treasure. Just as this field has been neglected for years, though known to a few of the state for years, is it now difficult to interest capital in placer mininu but there is another feature now becoming be-coming more and more significant since I the tide of civilization is continually encroaching on tho desert wastes. Along Green river arc numerous power 6ites, whero a magnificent amount of untamed un-tamed horsepower is awaiting the harness har-ness of capital. Many, if not all, theso power sites arc already taken up, but in the mnjorit3 if not in all, instances the owners arc unable to improve their interests personally, and are awaiting the inrush of men with money in order lo realize thcreou. And if ever there was a fearful waste of agriculture opportunity it is adjacent to the placer fields mentioned. Quarter Quar-ter section after quarter section call for nothing but wntcr to make them laugh with abundant harvests, and Green river holds sufficient water, by the use of electrical pumping facilities, to stir up nproarous mirth. The pioneer in this placer field is the Uintah Placer company, which has several other names preceding the word company, intimating that building power stations and developing the territory ter-ritory generally would be allowable under un-der its charter. This organization of Salt Lake talent is busy at work now installing a dredge which will gouge its way up and down the Green river at the rate of 2000 yards of handled dirt daily in the search for gold. The dredge is now being built, and this portion por-tion of the enterprise will call for an exnonditure of nearly $60,000. Those who know say the gold of this field is easilv saved, there beinc prac-ticallv prac-ticallv none of the 'flour gold'1 char acter IU llo twiui; uu burden need bo handled in order to tain the depth where tho gold is. With plenty of water and plenty of gold, this compunv should havo little trouble in converting the world to the merits of the Uintah placer deposits, and as every ev-ery one interested in this section is watching this company's efforts, its success means that others will immo-diately immo-diately jump in and do their share towards to-wards the general advancement .of mutual mu-tual interests. Associated with the gold is found platinum, while zircon and other rare metals often .make iheir appearance ap-pearance in tho pans aud rockers. This field offers plenty of room for capital, and it is not at all unlikely that the efforts to be expended during 1009 ou developing those neglected resources re-sources of the stato will be instrumental instrumen-tal in attracting tho attention of men of money who always view western fields with more than interested attci-liou. |
