Show ATTEMPT TO MURDER 1 BY POISONED CANDY DENVKK, Colo., Jan. 2. A box of homo-mado candy sent through tho mails lias nearly resulted in the' death of three persons, and the polieo nro now trying to trace the sender of the candy, in tho belief that a deliberate attempt was inado to poison the people to whom tho confectionery was sent. Mrs. Mario A. Smith, the divorced wife of A. C. Smith, a merchant of Miles City, Mont., and Violet and Osie Smith, her two youngest childreu. are seriously ill at their honie,d 1-05 Elati street, as a result of eating the candy. Tho bos wns received .yesterday, but was not opened until today. Mrs. Smith and her two cliildron ale somo of it and almost immediately became- very ill. Osic Smith, tho 36-year-old boy, ma' die. Tho postmark of the package pack-age is too blurred to be made out. Tho handwriting of tho address resembles that of a child. |
