Show Elementary School News Principal Doyal Swallow announced an-nounced that the first 500 books to go into the new Altamont Elementary Ele-mentary School Central Library have been shelved and are ready for cataloging. All catalog cards are' ready to go into the cataloging file. TeacheTs have been coming early ear-ly and staying late at school to get this library in order. It has entailed a lot of work, including sorting and classifying the books, preparing book pockets, book card's, and date slips;, and printing the Dewey Decimal and author cutter numbers on the books. Mrs. 'Birdie Swasey, high school librarian and part time elementary elemen-tary teacher, has helped a lot in getting started on this highly recommended re-commended library system. Recently the fifth grade class at the Altamont Elementary School completed a science unit on the earth and planets or "The Solar System." Charts .booklets, scale' models of the solar system and other projects were included in this unit of work. During part of this unit's work the teacher, Mrs Ve'ronna Goodrich, was attending an extension class on "Science in the Elementary School," from the Brigham Young University. The instructor from the BYU, upon viewing some of the work of these students, wrote' a very complimentary compli-mentary letter to the fifth grade. Mrs. Zola Stevensen's 3rd grade class completed a unit on nature that they started last fall. They watched the growth of leaves in the spring and in the fall. They went on a hike Friday. The last Elementary School assembly as-sembly program was given by Mrs. Goodrich's fifth grade and Mrs. Burton's first grade. They were very pleased to have many of their parents visit them. Mrs. Burton's class sang and dramatized drama-tized "The Easter Bunny." Mrs. Goodrich's class dramatized the "Golden Quest" The 4th, 5th and 6th grade boys are working hard at noon and recess on the Junior Pentathlon to be held on Wednesday, April 25th. Mrs. Erickson's 1st and 2nd grades are having fun playing in their toy band. Each child is making mak-ing his own instrument. Singing and dancing goes along with the play'. They will participate in the field day program. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WILL HOLD FIELD DAY The Altamont Elementary school will hold their Field Day on May 2nd It will include a parade; winding wind-ing the May Pole, and athletic contests. Parents are invited on this special fun day. Classroom projects will be on display for parents to observe. These' projects will be the work of students. The Variety Club will sell refreshments to help buy elementary school playground equipment. Be "sure to circle May 2 on your calendar and help celebrate Field Day. . Watch for announcement of Mrs. Case's 4th grade Puppet show. The students have been working hard on their hand-made puppets, theatre and program. This is a very unusual project which you won't want to miss. |
