Show Roosevelt Man, Altonah Lady Win Legion Posts Denny Martin, employee of the-Mtn. the-Mtn. States Telephone Co., and a member of the Basin Post No. 64, Sunday was elected commander for District Nine at the annual American Amer-ican Legion convention held in Roosevelt. He will succeed June Hacking of Vernal. Mr. Martin recently was elected vice-commander of the Roosevelt post and was installed Sunday as the second in command to Jack Harmston, commander. Chosen as vice-commander was Earl Dunsmore of the Altonah post who along with Mr. Martin will, be installed into office at the j state department convention to be held in Brigham City, June 21, 22 and 23. The adjutant is an appointive ap-pointive post and will be announced an-nounced by the new commander. Auxiliary Elects Mrs. T h e 1 m a Dunsmore, of Altonah, wife of the vice-commander-elect, was chosen as president presi-dent of the Auxiliary for District Nine. Arthur Horsely, service ser-vice officer and acting adjutant and William Sutteetr, executive National Committeemann From the state Auxiliary came Mrs. Lucy Larsen, president; Mrs. Martha Stewart, first vice-pres., Mrs. Earnestine Kallas, second vice-pres., Mrs. Ruby Farnsworth secretary and Mrs. Irma Sutteer, chairman of the education and scholarship committee. 109 At Banquet The afternoon meeting of the legion and auxiliary were conducted con-ducted by Commander Hacking and Auxiliary President Florence Lott of Myton. The convention was concluded by a banquet at the Legion Barracks at which time the 109 registered delegates attended. W. S. (Bill) Murdock, past district dis-trict commander and department vice-commander, was the master of ceremonies, and James Milligan, retiring post commander presided over the dinner. Speakers were Mrs. Eva Ashton, Vernal, past national auxiliary president, and Commander Tasker. A musical program consisted of a dance by Francis Ann Coltharp and Sally Oberhansly, accompanied by Mrs. Fern Oberhansly; vocal solo, Mrs. Lacy Fitzgerald; and girl's quartet composed of Leota Pitt, Billie' Reidhead, Laura Leardahl and Margaret Huber, accompanied ac-companied by Laura Leavitt. Jack Harmston, Americanism chairman for the district, presented pres-ented trophies to Joseph Kemp, Jr. and Dianne Bush, who won the legion oratorical contest. Joseph was first place winner and represented rep-resented the' area in the state finals. The Roosevelt post and auxil-ary auxil-ary unit were hosts to the convention. |
