Officials Of Sandia Mining Co. Offer Hope For Uranium Claims Large Vein Of High Grade Ore Found Which Spurs Activity; U. S. Mineral Map Lists Area As Possible Officials of the Sandia Mining and Developing Co., from Washington, Wash-ington, D. C. and Albuquerque, New Mexico, were in the Basin last Thursday, April 19, to look over their uranium claims located on the South Myton Bench area, which are in the process of being developed. The editor of the Roosevelt Standard-Uintah Basin Record spent a few hours going over the claims of the rapidly growing mining and developing company and saw first-hand some of the claims that have built up considerable hope and enthusiasm among the officers and 'stockholders in the company. Three major locations are being developed. They are Canary Bird, Eagle's Nest and Eureka claims. According to Einer C. Erickson, geologist, who is in charge of the development work which is being done by M.R.A.C., Inc., of Ruth, Nevada, they have uncovered a large deposit that shows a high grade test. One portion of the vein measured nearly 34 inches thick and decreased to about 8 to 10 inches. Just how long it is, cannot be determined until further fur-ther developing is done. President Was Here Heading the delegation of officials offi-cials was the president of Sandia, Willim DeMik whose home is in Washington, D. C. Also in the party were the financial adviser, Nathan Wechsler; legal adviser, Murray A. Kivitz, both of Washington, Wash-ington, and Theo N. Doerrie of New Mexico, property consultant and investor in the company. Mr. Wechsler, who was speak ing for the company in an interview inter-view with the officials, expressed a great deal of hope and optimism as to the future of the South Myton My-ton Bench area. "We firmly believe be-lieve this area will develop into one of the largest, low-production cost, producing uranium areas in the state of Utah, and this includes in-cludes the Colorado Plateau where the Moab and Monticello fields are being developed," Mr. Wechsler said. "We intend to go the limit in finding out what we have here, and if it proves to be what we hope for. there could easily be a big uranium boom start in this area," he continued. Another note of encouragement Mr. Wechsler left on his visit to the South Myton area was a statement state-ment that indicated the Mineral Sources Map of the United States (Series MPR-16), has listed the South Myton Bench area as one of the most basic areas in the west and predicted some high-grade producing uranium fields would be discovered and developed in the not too-distant future. "The' eyes of the uranium world are turned our way, and will, be watching very attentively our progress in this development project," Mr. Wechsler stated. Growing Rapidly Sandia Mining and Developing Co. recently acquired controlling interest of the Frontier Mining Corp. and Universal Uranium Corp., who have been operating on the Colorado Plateau the last 18 months. They are also in the process of acquiring six other companies who are in production of various base metals in various parts of the country. This is the first time they have entered the developing field in the north-eastern part of the state. They have developed large claims in the.Moab area. Assisting Mr. Erickson in the development work in this area are Klaus W. Groeger and' Leonard Leon-ard Rockwell. They spend most of their time on the claims, but have established Roosevelt as their headquarters. As rapidly as new developments materialize, Mr. Groeger, who is acting as liason officer for Sandia and M.R.A.C., Inc., will keep this newspaper informed. Accompanying photos taken at the' scene of development work, tell a bit more of the story of what is being done. Officials are also found in some of the photos. |
