Show By Mrs. Merle Ross Gains High Honors Little did President Hale Holgate know what was in store for him when he accepted an invitation to the Utah Parks Council Fellowship at Provo Friday night. It was a complete1 surprise to him when he was presented with the Silver Beaver award. This is the first time that a member of the Duchesne Du-chesne stake has been honored with the coveted' award. His wife came down from Salt Lake and also his daughter, Mrs. Chad Evans Ev-ans were there for the presentation. presenta-tion. Congratulations are certainly certain-ly due President Holgate for this recognition. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gilbert were happily surprised to have friends from Moses Lake, Wash., Mr. and Mrs. Frank Goodrich and family, drop in on them for a short visit before they left for Australia, where they have' been called on a "labor mission" for the L. D. S. church. Mrs. Max Ross. Mrs. Arden Evans Ev-ans and Mrs. Wells Rasmussen visited the Myton school Friday. Ronnie Calvin of Salt Lake is living at the home of his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Tanner-. He has transferred from his school to Roosevelt Jr. High for the balance bal-ance of the school year. Friday, Sandra, the small daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Richens, underwent a tonsilectomy at the Roosevelt Hospital. She' is rapidly recovering. Their daughter, Mrs. Max Mullins of Salt Lake also joined them for the trip. Mrs. John Cap-son Cap-son accompanied them and' will visit her son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Capson, at Long Beach. Mrs. Marvin Shields accompanied accompan-ied Mr. and Mrs. Marion Rust of Pleasant Valley to Salt Lake Friday. Fri-day. While there she had a medical medi-cal check-up and visited with two sisters and a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Smith, Mr. and Mrs Peter Gordan and Irvin Sagers in Tooele. , Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gilbert, Mr. and Mrs. LeGrande Gilbert and Hale Holgate attended a dairy meeting at Hotel Utah Friday. Mrs. Holgate, who has been in Salt Lake, joined them there and came home for the weekend, returning to Salt Lake' Monday with Joe Walters. Her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Sharon Holgate, is still confined to her bed with a bad heart and Ora is taking care of the family for her. , . MerrUl Lisonbee of Upalco and Les Pearson of Boneta have been taking care of business here during dur-ing the week. Mrs. Milton Larsen has spent the past ten days in Provo at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Myron Mower. Mr. Mower has been hospitalized hos-pitalized at the Utah Valley Hospital Hos-pital following a serious operation. Latest reports are now that he is doing fine. ' . Mr. and Mrs. Chad Evans spent Sunday afternoon visiting his parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ward Evans in Vernal. Fred Evans and Lynn Ross, along with other members of the Roosevelt Jr. High student council, spent Thursday at Uintah Jr. High at Vernal. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Horrocks of Duchesne visited Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Horrocks Monday. Mrs. Beverly Olsen, who has been working in Vernal, returned home for an indefinite stay. Lynn Ross and Fred' Evans, students stu-dents at the Roosevelt Jr. High, were among those chosen to attend at-tend the BYU Invitational Track Meet at Provo, Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Gwen Bodily and son, Merrill, of Salt Lake, were weekend visitors at the home of her mother, Mrs. Merle Ross. PRESENTS PROGRAM Another enjoyable Seminary program was given Sunday night. Mr. Hintze's Old Testament class gave' the following program: piano solo, Gerald Dye; talk, Kent Sullivan, Sulli-van, "Choosing a Mate;" Janet Liddell, "Plan of Salvation;" trio, Fay Hullinger, Dora Babcock and Susan Crapo, with Karen Wood-ard Wood-ard accompanist. Gary Shields gave' the closing talk on "The Word' of Wisdom." Mr. and Mrs. Harold Crapo and family of Myton My-ton and Thelma Lamb of Bridge-land Bridge-land were visitors. Rulon Gilbert and Richard Cap-son Cap-son attended the FFA banquet at Union High, Saturday night. Rulon Ru-lon was a guest speaker. All former for-mer presidents of the chapter were especially honored. Rulon was one of these' too. He has done some very outstanding FFA work, sufficient to earn him the title of being a State Farmer. Gladys Bell was recently appointed ap-pointed the local health officer. She succeeds Merle Ross, who has held that office for the past several sev-eral years. Each week all communicable com-municable diseases have to be reported re-ported to the State. Anyone in the ward with any such disease should report it promptly to Gladys. This is another of those "gratis jobs," but it takes time and frequently some of these diseases aren't reported re-ported because of indifferent citizens. cit-izens.
