Show Jackson - Nielson continue Winning Ways Two Cedar City athletes were among the point winners for Brigham Young University at the Western Athletic Conference Track and Field meet held this week at Alberquerque, N.M. Brad Jackson, a freshman sprinter and a record winner for Cedar High School for three years, picked up points in two sprint events and two relays. Kim Nielson, a junior at BYU, picked up second place honors in the high jump in the WAC outing. The event concluded the track and field season for the two young men, and Jackson was voted as the Outstanding Out-standing . member of the Track Team for the season. According to head member Clarence Robinson it is one of the few times that a freshman fresh-man has won such an honor. Jackson, however, garnered gar-nered more points for the Cougars than any other member of the squad. Jackson placed third in the prestegeous 100 meter dash behind a pair of world-class performers from San Diego State and Wyoming, He also placed third in the 200 meter against the same performers. per-formers. In addition Jackson anchored an-chored the mile relay team that picked up a third place and anchored the 400 meter relay that placed fourth after a bad exchange. . In the high jump the participants were jumping into a wind. The top three in the conference all cleared six feet 10 inches but none could clear the seven foot mark. First place was awarded to Mike White of Wyoming based on fewer imsses with Neilson capturing second second place. Nielson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Nielson and Brad is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Jackson ' all of Cedar City. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson report that Brad will be leaving school at the conclusion con-clusion of this semister of study expecting to receive a call to serve an LDS Mission. That would indicate that Brad will be out of competition com-petition for the next season. |
