Show Kaiparowits Coal Study Made Public opinion concerning a study of potential mining and transportation of coal from the Kaiparowits Plateau is being sought by the study's steering committee. com-mittee. The study is being carried out jointly by state and federal agencies. A steering committee is chaired by Gerald E. Magnuson, chief of the planning and environmental en-vironmental coordination section of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management's Utah state office. The committee has prepared a "Statement of Work" document which includes character and extent of the study; background information; purpose, components and scope of the work; criteria for acceptance of the study (which will be done mostly by contract) and funding. The state of work is being mailed to known interested groups and individuals, according to Paul L. , Howard, BLM Utah state, director. Copies are available upon request from the BLM Utah state office, 136 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111. Comments concerning the statement should be received before May 29 in the BLM Utah state office (attention of the division of planning and environmental coordination).
