Show Speedometer Checks Offered Due to Governor Scott Matheson's request lor increased enforcement of the 55 mph speed limit, and his request of the motorists of Utah to take action to reduce unnecessary travel in an effort to offset n reduction in available energy resources. The I'tah Highway Patrol and the Department of Public Safety intend to again offer a community radar speed check to assist the motoring public and encourage compliance , with our speed and traffic laws. Several checks will be held in Iron County. They are; May 12 and 19 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on SR56 three miles west ofCedar City; May 19 from 1 tm. to 2 p.m. on Old I S 91, one mile north of Pa rowan. This program is scheduled by locationand ' time throughout the State in an effort to assist motorists in determining the accuracy of their speedometers. It is known that speedometers can read inaccurately due to mechanical error, changing tire sizes, or even in new vehicles. It is h oped that by offering this program, the I'tah Highway Patrol will be able to encourage voluntary compliance with the traffic laws in the State of Utah. We encourage all motorists to partake of this free radar speed check program. |
