However, the snow created many "winter fantasies" fan-tasies" as the late spring snow draped on limbs, leaves, and utility lines throughout the area. Smith said that CPN workers had begun work at 10:30 p.m. on Mon. and were still going on late Tues. afternoon. af-ternoon. "They're a good bunch of troops," . said the engineer. Iron County School Superintendent Clair Morris, reported that the schools in Parowan and the Cedar City Junior High School had been closed because of the outages. Morris said that the Parowan schools were too cold for students. The junior high school was closed since many of its classrooms do not have windows which would provide natural light and were too dark for students to use without some kind of illumination. Morris reported that the rest of the schools in the district met as usual using natural lighting from the windows and not being unreasonably cold. The superintendent thought that Parowan schools might continue to be shut down on Wed. A heavy and wet six inches of snow falling on Mon. night caused power shutdowns throughout the area and several school closings. "The snow caused the power shutdowns. It was so heavy that it stuck to the utility lines and the laden tree branches also helped to brine down wiring and shut off the electricity," elec-tricity," said Wallace Smith, CP-National CP-National Division Engineer. Most areas experienced some type of power problem which ranged from the dimming of lights to almost all day power outages in Parowan. Smith said that Parowan's shortage began m ound 6 a.m. Tues. morning and was continuing Tues. afternoon. Kan-n;r-.-aville's lights went out at 11:30 t .rn. on Mon. night and were restored on Tues. afternoon. The Northwest area of Cedar City was the hardes hit section of the city with power cuts beginning a 7:30 a.m. in the morning and continuing for about six hour- |
