Show Council Will Consider Mistrial Park Idea "I think we're interested in an industrial in-dustrial park," stated Cedar City Mayor Jack Sawyers. Ken Lundgren of KD Construction met with the council last week for their initial reaction to the idea of an industrial park. Lundgren presented the proposal to the city's Planning Committee on Tues. night. Lundgren was interested in whether the city would be willing to help such a development with revenue bonds or through a special improvement district to offset the anticipated $300,000 price tag. He pointed out that other cities have developed industrial parks through similar arrangements. The proposed site would be at the Airport Rd. and U56 junction covering 40.5 acres and containing about 70 lots. "These deals will come back to haunt the city," warned Larson who disagreed with the"trade" agreement. Larson said that it would be better for the city to pay Mrs. Corry $1,000 than to give a hookup. The city had begun drilling the well while a crew was in the area. The agreement narrowly passed the council. "I'd like to see an industrial park myself but I don't really think that the city should help finance an industrial park when people are making money off of it," said Councilman Arlo Larson.. "I think its money ahead if we can get Cedar City, the Chamber of Commerce and private industry working together," said Councilman Harold Shirley. The consensus of the council favors the development of an industrial park but would not commit the city to a plan until more facts are knvn. Cemetery "I was horrified to find truck marks on my husband's grave," said local resident Mrs. Arthur Fife. She described several visits to the city cemetery this spring when truck tracks had been left on at least six graves. Mrs. Fife produced photographs which showed the deep ruts and discussed reviewing the tracks on several occasions with various witnesses. Glen Spencer, Head of the city's Parks and Recreation Department, explained to Mrs. Fife that for various reasons an alternative route to the old section of the cemetery which she had suggested could not be used. "Part of the problem was that this wasn't an ordinary winter," said Spencer in describing the soggy ground conditions which cemetery workers have had to contend with. "We try hard to maintain a good cemetery and when we do have problems we try to have them rectified.. rec-tified.. .we apologize and we are restoring the damaged areas,"said the mayor. The council was concerned with Mrs. Fife's complaint and offered their apologies. After the meeting, Councilman Shirley reviewed the |
