Show Ram Thinclads garner 3rd at Region The Parowan Rams track Blair alsn fhirH in tho r ... v.. 1 - i f . . v 1 I he Parowan Rams track team travelled to Dixie on Wed. , May 2 for the Region Eight track and field meet. The day seemed to favor the meet as it was sunny and warm and the wind never did get too strong. Performances Per-formances were good and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The Rams came away with a third place finish in the region behind .North Sevier and a strong Beaver team. Fourteen schools participated this year so all schools in the region were there and were well represented. The PHS team qualified nine men for the state finals to be held Sat,May 12 at Snow College. Probably the most exciting ex-citing race of the day came in the mile run as the three top milers in the state met in the region finals. Blair Bentley until the finals had been running third to Todd Kennedy or North Sevier and Jimmy Salina of Wasatch Academy. Coming off the last turn the three sprinted to the finish line. Bentley for the first time this season finished ahead of the field to win the mile with a new school and region record of 4;41.2 seconds. Blair also placed third in the 880 yard run and anchored the mile relay that upset Beaver for a state berth. David Evans last year's defending sprint champion placed first in the 220 yard dash and second in the 100 yard dash, he also placed second in the long jump and ran on the medley relay team that ran second. In the 440 Scott Freeborn came on strong to qualify for state with a 54.9 time. Jerry Patterson and Lloyd Baker ran neck and neck through the entire two mile run and finished fourth . and fifth to earn places in the state meet. Roger Bentley a strong junior placed fifth in the high hurdles and fourth in the 330 yard intermediate hurdles to qualify for state in both. Roger also ran on the 440 yd. relay team and the medley that will compete in state competition. , The Rams qualified two relay teams with Roger Bentley, David Evans, Richard Burton and Bill Moss, 2nd in medley. Doug Hermansen, Scott Freeborn, Richard Burton and Blair Bentley, 2nd in mile relay. Bob Tobler is PHS track coach. CAPTURES FIRST PLACE. Blair Bentley of Parowan High School captured first place honors in the mile run at Region Eight track and field meet held at Dixie College this past week. His time for the mile was 4:41.2 minutes establishing a new school and region record. |
