Show Cindy Esplin Esplin Awarded Scholarship Cindy Esplin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Esplin,375 East 3600 North, Cedar City, was one of ten high school students from Utah who were presented $400 Union Pacific Railroad scholarships at a dinner hosted by the railroad at the Hotel Utah in Salt Lake City recently. The awards were presented by V.H.Krider, director of personnel for Union Pacific Railroad from Omaha, Neb. Cindy, a senior at Cedar City High School .plans to enroll at either Utah State University or Southern Utah State College in the fall. Her scholarsip was awarded under the Unior Pacific Railroad Scholarship program which offers 105 awards each year to 4-H Club members and students of Vocational Agriculture living in 198 selected counties in 11 states served by the UP system. The railroad also offers 35 scholarships each year to dependent sons and daughters of UP employees and retired employees. The Unior Pacific Railroad scholarship program is one of the oldest and largest industrial scholarship programs in the United States. Since the program was started in 1921, the railroad has invested over $1.5 million in nearly 13,000 winners. Recipients are selected on the basis of scholastic standing, leadership, character and participation in extra curricular activities. |
