The City Council appointed Phillip Eves the City Attorney at their meeting last week. Eves, a Parowan resident who has recently moved from southern Calif., was recommended for the position by Mayor James Robinson. The city has agreed to pay Eves $150 per month for a maximum number of five 1 hours a month. Hours not used in any given month may be used to offset time in a later month. Eves will be paid $35 an hour for time spent on city business beyond the agreed amount of time. Eves will also attend at least every other council meeting which will not be counted as part of his five hours per month of city work. City Police Mayor Robinson on the basis of a recommendation from the Public Safety Committee will appoint Wayne Townsend the Chief of Police on May 16, 1979. Townsend will receive $933 per month, the same salary given to former Police Chief Joe Haslam. The council also approved the appointment of Jim Green as a new police officer. of-ficer. The appointment is effective as of May 16 with a starting salary of $756 per month. Robby Topham will return to his regular part time duties at his previous rate of pay. Shade Trees The mayor reported that shade trees will be planted around the square. He said that the sprinkler installation in-stallation has been completed com-pleted and that the holes have been dug. The city recorder will send a letter of appreciation to William Dromberg who pruned the historic old cottonwood tree which is materials. -Councilwoman Bentley reported to the council that progress is continuing on the airport apron and runway improvements. -Bentley reported that the community calendar is now open. -Bentley reported that the Low Income Housing Program will be administered ad-ministered by Miss Junie Joseph locally. The program is expecting state allocated funds (for Brian Head) shortly. -Mayor Robinson requested that Councilman Wood check with J & D Sanitation to make certain that they are complying with the council's request that , they observe the agreed upon schedule for keeping the city dump open. across from the Howard Ward home as part of the Arbor Day celebration. Booth The council approved the proposed installation of an information '., booth on the city square. The booth is part of a project sponsored Dy tne Seventies Quorum of the LDS Church. As part of the project, the booth will be used to inform visitors about the city, the historic "Old Rock Church" and other interesting areas to see in the vicinity. As part of the project, tours will be conducted through the Old Rock Church, the Jesse Smith Home and the Third Ward Church. The booth is planned to be placed north of the monument on the west side of Main St. No compensation com-pensation will be required from the city for the service. Other Business -Councjlman "Benson reported that the sidewalks, curbs, and gutters around the square are almost complete. He also said that $4,300 is available from the Utah Department of Transportation for sidewalk construciton in various areas of the city. -The council passed a resolution to approve the Water Change Application of Gurr Farms Co. when it is presented. The agreement has been reviewed by Hal Mitchell and Karl Morris of the Parowan Reservoir Co. -The council passed the Parowan Maintenance Agreement. -The council passed a revised Parowan-Paragonah Parowan-Paragonah Electrical Maintenance Agreement.
