Show B. Y. G. BOYS TO TAKE OP ATHLETIC WORK School Has Developed a Good Team; Ambitious for Track Honors. Special to The Tribune. LOG AX, Mareh 0. The Britain , Young college, basketball quail men have eliecked in their suits for the season sea-son and Coo eh Knapp is eager to take them out of doors for trai-k work, hut weather conditions indicate that it will bo some time yet before this can be done. To the regret of many of the '' V supporters the game with the H. Y. V., which should have taken place last Wednesday night, was called oft" because be-cause the regular B. V. V. team did not appear, only second string men coming to play this game. Coach Knapp and the athletic committee of the college col-lege did not feet disposed to let the locals go into a game with any other than the regular Provo team, as this seems to have been the. agreement made some time prior. A large crowd assembled as-sembled to witness the game as t hey wanted to see the famous Provo team in action. Popular sentiment locally seems to be wholly in accord with the action of Coach Knapp, although many regret that The local church school should be obliged to end the session in such a manner. Toward the end of the season the B. Y. C. quint developed into a fast aggregation. The team was not overworked, over-worked, as were the Aggies, and fhere was some talk of a third game between the two Logan institutions, as they had split in the games this season, which condition seems to have become a fixed rule. Each of the "Y" boys played well individually and all were practically new men. Captain Kussell Berntson at forward played his first regular season and developed in the art of scoring. Loriu Haws, his running run-ning mate, came out of the kinks in great fashion. He has much speed as well as size. .Toe ."Maughan and Glen Neely, the guards, proved a formidable defense combination. All these men will be graduated for the high school course this year, and could the ' Y ' ' have taken" part in the scholastic series this year thev would undoubtedly have reached the tournament and been eon-tenders eon-tenders for the title.. Nathan Barlow at tho center is the only veteran on the squad, having played on the Oneida team of Preston four years. The B. Y. 0. has a good string of men to fall back on next year. Among them are Hammond, Ed wards, Hyer, McBride, Mc-Bride, Home, Allen and Nelson. Coach Alma J. Knapp, with the experience ex-perience of having coached the famous Murdock academy track teams when they copped tho state scholastic, track and field honors, is anxious after more track and field honors. Krom indications indica-tions the B. Y. C. will have a strong lineup for the spring sports, especialiv in the high school department, in which they will have a largo list of candidates. |
