On the Verdun front the Germans attacked at-tacked the trenches recaptured by the French north of Caurieres wood. They penetrated these positions at some points, but were ejected by a counter attack. The French continued their raids, penetrating the German positions east of Armancourt as far as the third trenches and taking prisoners near Crony, northeast of Soissons. The announcement follows: South of the Avro yesterdav we made several attacks which enabled us to inflict losses on the enemy and take prisoners. East of Armancourt Ar-mancourt our detachments pene- Itrated to the German trench, which was destroyed. Northeast, of Soissons, Sois-sons, near Crony, we took half a score of prisoners. Two attacks on our small posts in the vicinity of Bheims were repulsed. In the Champagne the night was marked by violent fighting.
