Show New York, 1917 National League Champions JOHN J. M'GRAW, manager of the New York National league club, came to New York from the Baltimore American league team in 1902 and has served in his present capacity for the past fifteen vears. Born at Truxton, N. Y.. in 1S73, he bega.n playing baseball as a small boy and has been connected with the game as , player or manager for close to thirty years. His first appearance as a professional profes-sional was with the Clean club of the New York State league In 1590. The following fol-lowing season he moved to Cedar Rapuls teamrfrom which he advanced to the Baltimore Bal-timore club of the National league late in 1S91, but did not get an opportunity to show his ability until the next summer. McGraw, once he got the chance to play regularly, became one of the stars of the famous Baltimore Orioles, and when that team disbanded in 1 9uu he was sold with Wilbur Robinson, now manager of the Brooklyn ciub, to St. Louts for SIS. 000, which was a big price for baseball players play-ers in those days. McGraw objected to going to St. Louis and played there but a short time before jumping to Baltimore again, where he became manager of the Baltimore Americans. A year later, after trouble with both league and club authorities, authori-ties, McGraw announced that he was through with baseball and It was then that President Freedman of the New-York New-York club secured McGraw as manager. Since his connection with the team his players have won five league championships champion-ships and one world series, CHARLES L. (BUCK) HERZOG, captain and second baseman, born at Baltimore, Md., July 9, 18S5, and resides at Ridge-ly, Ridge-ly, Md. He played shortstop on the college col-lege nines while a student at the Maryland Mary-land Agricultural college and the University Uni-versity of Maryland. His professional career on the diamond began in 1907. when he played third base and shortstop on the Reading. Pa., team of the Trl-State Trl-State league. Played with the Giants in 190S-0, but was traded to Boston (National (Na-tional league) in 1910. He returned to New York the following year, playing three seasons under McGraw until he was transferred in the Bescher deal to Cincinnati, where he managed the "Reds" until July, 1916. Since that, time he has been with the New York Nationals as captain of the team. Last April Herzog injured his spine when he fell heavily on the stone floor of a railroad depot when the team was leaving New York for Philadelphia. Phila-delphia. He was unable to play for several sev-eral weeks afterward, but managed to take a part in many games during the season. Early in September he was suspended sus-pended by President Hempstf-ad for refusing re-fusing to accompany the Giants on their final western trip. GEORGE L. ("LEW") M'CARTY, catcher, born at Catawisna, Pa., November Novem-ber 17, 1SSS. pin. red on the high school team there as catcher and his professional entry in baseball was with the Newark (International) team in 1911. He. was sold to Brooklyn in 1913 and was traded to New York August 26, 19It. While playing play-ing at. Gibson's residence resi-dence is at London, Canada, He is 37 years old, weighs 1 00 pounds, stands five feel 11 Vi inches and is right handed in batting and throwing. JOHN ONSLOW, catcher. born at Scottsd;de, Pa., in 1SSS. He played football foot-ball and baseball while at Scio college-Ohio, college-Ohio, being catcher for the college nine. He joined the Dallas club of the Texas league team In 1909 and from there went to the Fort Wayne, Central league team in 1:111. A year later he went as catcher catch-er to tiio Detroit. Americans and was sent to Providence (International leaguel in 1913. In the fall of that year he returned to Detroit, but played with Provider.ee in 191 L In the three subsequent years he played for the Buffalo Internationals until un-til last August, when he was purchased to strengthen the catching staff of the Giants. Onslow's home Is at Mount Pleasant. Ohio. He bats and throws right handed, is 2S years old, weighs 1.9 pounds and is five feet eleven inches tall. CHARLES (JEFF) TESREAU, pitcher, born at Ironton, Mo., March 5. 1SS9. In 1109 Tesreau began his professional career ca-reer with the Houston. Texas, league team and pitched for the Shrevcport team of the tijme league in 1010. A year later he was with t lie Toronto club on option after being purchased by the New York nationals. He was recalled to the Giants in IL'12 and has been a very useful member mem-ber of McGraw's pitching staff ever since. He resides in New York. Tesreau is 5 years old. weighs 21ii pounds, measures six feet, two and one-quarter inches In height and is right handed at batting and throwing. WILLIAM D. (POLL) PERRITT, pitcher. pitch-er. Born at Arcadia. La., in and a resident of Shreveport, La. His first professional pro-fessional appearance was with the Vicks-burg Vicks-burg and Greenwood, Miss., team of the Cotton States league in 1912, then he was sold to the St. Louis Nationals, playing there to the close of the 1911 season. He was purchased by the Giant s in the spring of 1915 and has been on the New York twirling staff for the past thrre years. Pitched for his college nines. Davidson college and j the University of Maryland. In 1006 he began as a professional with the Darlinc-ton Darlinc-ton (S. CM league and later pitched for Rocky Mount and Wilson of tho Hasten N. C. league. Joined the Boston Ked Sox in 1909, hut In 1910-11 he did not play, as he was practicing dentistry during thesn two years.
