MOTOR ACTIVITIES ARE FEATURE OF FAIR WEEK j OS S3 INDUSTRIAL SHOW PROVES THAT AUTO IS SUPREME CHIEF among the attractions at Utah's annual event were auto show, auto racing and auto polo. Photos show the big 300-horsepower speed demons burning burn-ing up the t',ack on the home stretch; also a mixup which resulted in one of the polo cars doing a flip-flop, a regular stunt, apparently, it occurred so often; oft-en; insert shows C. Autos Take Prominent Part at Utah's Remarkable State Fair. . j Utah's industrial show, which claimed' the attention of the. vast majority of all residents of the intermountain district dis-trict last week proved beyond peradven-ture peradven-ture of a doubt that in the play life of the nation'the auto ranks supreme. 'Long ago the place that the auto has attained, in the social and industrial world was conceded. First in interest perhaps, -at the state fair to tho auto runs was the display of different makes of cars. The several sev-eral booths were at all times the center of attraction, and while no considerable consider-able number of actual sales were recorded, re-corded, yet the impression that was produced by those foresighted deaJers t who had cars on exhibition, cannot but have a beneficial and lasting effect. The an ton on, display ranged from the modish closed design to the racy little roadster; all styles and all nrnkes came in for their rightful share of admiration and praise from the throngs of visitors. Jt was a rare chance for tho rural resident resi-dent to fill up on auto lore, to soe the different makes and models in close assemblage, as-semblage, thus enabling him to contrast their respective merits, nnd ho very evidently availed himself of the opportunity, oppor-tunity, judging from the manner in which those in charge of tho a-uto booth.8 were kept busy, A decidedly new and entertaining feat tiro at the fair was the auto polo contests each day. This is rather startling and dangerous pastime to engage . in dangerous to the players not the autos. ft never seemed to faze the little Ford ' bronchos 7 ' which served as ""steeds M 'for -the human element ele-ment in. the gome. The big speed demons, many of, which were piloted pi-loted by famous drivers, never failed to grip the interest of the crowds. And when they got into action, tearing up the dirt track like an array of soldiers hurriedly digging a trench line, the attention at-tention of the specators became intense and never abated until the last car had crossed the tape at the finish. Thrilled with the' swift flight of the low-hung speed-monsters kept aroused by their mighty exhaust and aware of the great element of danger attendant upon all such exhibitions, Salt Lake's fair crowds became a for the nonce' aparent-ly aparent-ly spellbound by the spectacle of daring dar-ing and grit that was being - produced for their special benefit. - The local dealers' raco was not without with-out its element of excitement and deep interest as many of the spectators were prone to take sides with their favorite make of car. The winner, the big Cole 8,, was accorded a great ovation. : Jt is anticipated that the grand showing show-ing made by the local auto dealers at the fair is but the precursor of even greater activities on their part for like events in future years.
