I It is doubtful if the merchants and business men of Salt Lake and vicinity with haulage problems confronting them have ever evidenced greater interest than in. the plans announced by the Motor Truck & Tractor company of 33 West Fourth South street, Salt Lake, for delivery of Smith Form-a-Trucks in this territory in the immediate future. fu-ture. v The Smith Form-a-Truck is an attachment at-tachment whereby any sort or size of pleasure car can be converted into a one-ton delivery or haulage truck at a minimum of expense, trouble and time. Officials of the Motor Truck & Tractor company declare that over 30,-000 30,-000 of the most exacting corporations, business houses and mercantile estab- 'lishments in the United States are using us-ing this Form-a-Truck at present and that the nationally known ' concerns which operate fleets of these trucks include in-clude Armour & Co., Standard Oil company, com-pany, Pittsburg Plate Glass company, Schlitz Brewing company, Firestone Eubber company, Montgomery, Ward & Co., and many others. Here in Salt Lake and vicinity the following firms are successfully operating operat-ing Smith Form-a-Trucks: ' Redman Fireproof Storage company, Independent Indepen-dent Ice company, Auerbach & Co., Granite Lumber company, Tintic Standard Stand-ard Mining company, United States Stores company, Crescent Ice Cream company, Buehler-Crawford Furniture company, Capell Salt company, Vienna bakery, Tyng warehouse, Rock Springs Coal company, Garfield; Crawford Furniture company, Busier 's Milling & Elevating company, Miller-Cahoon company. The Smith Form-a-Truck is designed to carry practically 90 per cent of the load on the rear' wheels. The' front wheels carry no more weight than they would were the car chassis equipped as a touring car. The frame of the Smith Form-a-Truck attachment is built with four-j four-j inch channel rolled steel, and is se-j se-j curaly riveted to the car frame immediately imme-diately behind the radiator. The original orig-inal car frame acts as a sturdy reinforcement. rein-forcement. Ample radius rods take the stress away from the jackshaft, and give full support to the frame. Heavy torsion rods strengthen the springs. The rear axle is tolid steel, two and a quarter by thirteen and three-quarters Indies. It is supported by twelve leaf springs. A heavy relief or bumper car spring over the axles takes care of any overload. over-load. The Smith-Form-a-Truck is equipped w-ith Timken roller bearings. The Smith Form-a-Truck wheels are the truck artillery type, and each has twelve wooden spokes, two inches square. They are equipped with solid Firestone rubber rub-ber truck tires, size thirty-two by three and a half inches. Four inches are cut from the ends of the rear axle of your car and the wheels replaced by heavy sprockets. Heavy roller side chains over these sprockets transmit the power to the new rear wheels. Thus the rear axle is1 converted into a jackshaft rigidlv attached to the frame with special hangers. Emergency brakes, adequate to handle han-dle full loads on any hills, are provided on the rear wheels! This combination of a passenger car power plant and tho Smith Form-a-Truck attachment, built with standard parts, provides a solidly constructed one-ton truck of greatest sim'plicit', dependability and lowest possible cost to maintain. To convert a pleasure car into a one-ton one-ton truck by use of the Smith Form--Truck all that is necessary is to take luc ooay orr tne pleasure car and remove re-move the rear wheels, whereupon the Smith Form-a-Truck attachment is quickly and solidly put into place.
