Show CHANCELLOR TELLS OF DUTIES OF VICE Reichstag Decides That the Office Shall Expire on March 31, 1919. AMSTERDAM, Oct. (. Dr. Georg Miehaelis, the German imperial chancellor,, chan-cellor,, in exnliiinint; lo the roiebjtag the duties or the vice chancellor, according ac-cording to a Berlin dispatch, said it was not intended to make the vice chancellor chancel-lor an intermediary between the ehan-' cellor and the secretaries of state or to make his post superior to those of the latter. The vi.c chancellor was only to be. entrusted with general powers which were not within the province of the secretaries of state. The reiehstag, according to a dispatch from Berlin oil October 5, ratified the action of the main committee in providing pro-viding that the office of vice chancellor chancel-lor should expire on March 31, iUis). Dr. Karl Helrferieh held the post for some time previous to the retirement of Ur.l von Bcthmann-Hollweg as chancellor chancel-lor and was retained in the new ministry min-istry under Dr. Miehaelis despite considerable con-siderable opposition to him in the German Ger-man press. |
