Show GOVERNMENT LARGE . 1T0R IJCK BUYER 35,000 Purchased; Smith Attachment Is Extensively Extensive-ly Used. -More and more is the motor truck .ominj; into its own. The past three cnrs have seen wonderful strides made in their use. First of all, in a military nay, the United States government alone has already contracted for over iSr,000 of all siz.es and makes to be completed this year. The freight condition con-dition throughout the country has handi-;apped handi-;apped the railroads to an enormous extent, this condition will grow worse is the plans for the final mobilization !)f the army for oversea service are completed. This lack of transportation facilities has forced shippers to use iither means than the railroads. In their urgent need they have turned to the motor truck and the result has been i revelation to them. The economic lemruid for food conservation has led to the greater use of the motor truck through the release of horses and mules, us it takes the produce of 37,000,000 acres of land to support the horses and nudes in this countrv. Due to the war all these things are being brought to light and are pointing point-ing the way to wider uses, to which motor trucks can he put and the numerous nu-merous other conditions that will bo relieved re-lieved through their use. With the proposed use of motor 'rucks the natural question of cost of meration enters into the discussion. How well and easily this question can be solved is best illustrated by the following fol-lowing instance: The Cheyenne Creamery .company of Cheyenne, Wyo., have until recently been using horses to do their hauling. Through actual experience and statistics statis-tics kept over a long period of time their records show that their horses cost them exactly $44 a month. This was due to several reasons, principally the high cost of horse food. One day they were prevailed upon to purchase a Smith Form-a-Truck. Since that time they found thnt the Smith Form-a-Truck could do the work in a quarter of the' time that it was possible to do it with horses and could relieve the driver for other work. The actual net upkeep of the Smith Form-a-Truck has been less than $14 a month, showing a net saving of $30 a month in addition to many other advantages. It can be seen from this that in spite of the many other reasons for an increasing in-creasing wide use, the cost of operation alone is sufircient reason for anyone to change to motorized delivery. In the motor truck field the Smith Fonn-a-Truck holds the record for the lowest operating cost in the world. |
