Show Hunter safety course starts for young hunters Fall is in the air and this means it's almost time for all the hunting seasons to begin. This is when the young people will begin hunting small game for the first time. Anyone 12 years old may hunt for small game providing they have successfully suc-cessfully completed their hunter safety course. The last course before hunting season has just begun. Registration was last Thursday night (Aug. 21,) however, if others need to complete the course prior to this fall's hunting seasons, they may do so by contacting Lloyd Clark at 789-3134 by Thursday evening (Aug. 28,) which is the first class. This law reads "No hunting license shall be issued to any resident under the age of 21 unless he presents to the Division of Wildlife Resources or one of its authorized wildlife license agents a certificate of competency in hunter safety issued by the Division of wildlife Resources under the hunter safety program. Any violation of the provisions of this section shall be considered a violation by both the person issuing the license and the person to whom the license is issued." It has been misunderstood by some license agents and also sportsmen that all they need to show is a previous year's license with their hunter safety number of it. This is wrong. They must present their blue card to the person issuing their hunting license. If they do not have their card they must contact a Division of Wildlife Resources office and purchase a duplicate card for $1.00 before purchasing their license. Even though Utah no longer requires presentation of the blue card once the person becomes 21 years of age, if a person plans to ever hunt in Colorado or other surrounding states, they must show their blue card if they were born after Jan. 1, 1949, and have it on their person while hunting. Therefore, if a person plans to hunt at some time in these other states, it would probably be beneficial to retain their blue card even after they become 21 years of age. If it does somehow become lost, a duplicate can be obtained ob-tained at a Division of Wildlife Resources office. |
