Solmonson won the battle for lu3!r Ciylb Jewells Sflmnsfl grew, 23-15 Strout was only behind by six runs, 15-9, 15-9, after gaining a double play it appeared ap-peared that the Roosevelt crew was going to blank Clover Club in the sixth inning, but the chip team erupted for eight runs with two outs and went on to win the Vernal Invitational championship cham-pionship in the second encounter by the score of 23 to 15, Saturday. Brent Fieldsted reached first base on an error, but Chris Heaton grounded into a doubleplay in the top of the sixth inning. Joe Fieldsted connected for a double and was driven in on a double by Jeff Alexander. Gordon Edlredge got on base due to an error and a single by Greg Todd knocked in Alexander. Home run king. Gary Moore blasted the Softball over the fence for a three-run three-run circuit clout, which drove in Eldredge and Todd. Robert Werry. Dean Woodbury and Kim Peterson knew that Moore's three run homer performance would be a tough act to follow, but they did the best they could as each batter produced a homer for four homers in a row in one inning. Brent Fieldsted got on base on an error and Heaton singled, but Joe Fieldsted flied out for the third out. Clover Club had a 23 to 9 lead after 54 innings. Clover Club jumped out to a 6 to 0 lead in the top of the first inning in the second championship game. Moore and Werry singled and Moore was driven in for the first run on a single by Woodbury. Alexander stroked a single to score Heaton and Eldredge singled and knocked in Fieldsted. However, it was now Strout's turn to score runs and they picked up five runs in the bottom of the first inning to cut Clover Club's lead to 6 to 5. Ace Davis led off with a triple and scored on a single by Rick Browning. Bill Fisher cut Clover Club's advantage to 6 to 3 with a two-run homer. Don Solmonson followed Fisher's home run blast with a circuit clout blast of his own. Craig Todd singled, advanced to second and third, and scored on a single by Ralph Wright to cut Clover Club's advantage to one run. 6 to 5. Rick Browning of Strout connected with the Softball for a home run with two outs in the bottom of the second inning to tie up the game at 6-6. but Clover Club pounded Strout for four runs in the top of the third inning for a in to 6 advantage. Brent Fieldsted singled and moved to third base on a single by Heaton. Joe Fieldstead reached first base on an error and Brent Fieldsted crossed home plate. Alexander knocked in Heaton and Fieldsted with a three run homer. Strout cut the Roosevelt chip team's lead to 10 to 9, with three runs in the bottom of the third ining. Solmonson singled, advanced to second on a fielder's choice and scored on an error. Gordon "Woody" Olsen smashed a double and scored on a double by Wayne Allred.
