Show Ladies net tournament honors Helen Melton pocketed first place in the Ladies Club Championship at the Dinaland Golf Course in Vernal, Saturday and Sunday. Mildred Tadlock garnered the low net crown. The first place winners were presented silver dishes as trophies. The defending champion was Gerrie Buckaw. Other winners were: A flight, Lorraine Higgins, first net; Betty Hart, second gross; Jean Johnston, second net; B flight, Virginia Garner, first net; Karma Miller, Corrine Pease, second gross; JoAnn Caldwell, second net and C flight, Elaine Gurr, first gross; Judy Roberts, first net; Betty Murray, second gross; Butch Reigh, second net. . Derby winners were Jean Johnston, first; Helen Hood, second and Betty Hart, third. Nine ladies traveled to Meeker, Colo., August 19 to compete in an 18 hole golf tournament. Helen Melton fired rounds of 42 and 43 for first place gross in the A flight. She also had the longest drive in the A flight. Kim Mowry had the longest drive in the B flight. Elaine Gurr tied for third net with 47-56. 47-56. She was also closest to the pin on number seven with her tee shot. The teams of Lorraine Higgins, Dode Rolfe, Thelma Smuin and Betty Hart, Wilma Lee, Ruth Reichle shot a 28 best ball to tie for first place on Aug. 20. Fourteen ladies from Vernal area competed in the Roosevelt Invitational, Thursday. Nabbing honors in the meet were: Wilma Lee, first gross, C flight, 103; Lucille Phillips, second gross, B flight, 104; Virginia Garner, second net, A flight, 68; Betty Hart, second gross, A flight, 90; Nina Pease, longest drive; Helen Melton, closest to pin on number three and closest on second shot on number 6 and Karma Miller, Betty Hart, tie for least putts.
