Show Vernal boner wins fight with Etnockout Vernal's Larry Harrison used a right uppercut to send undefeated Billy Cook of Sacramento, Calif., to the canvas for a knockout in the 70 pound division in the Northern California Championship Fights, August 19 in Sacramento, Calif. Cook had won 12 straight fights and the win by Harrison was his 11th in a row. "It looked like at first Billy Cook was going to give Larry a rough time. The boy had won 12 straight and had never been whipped. Larry gave Cook a bloody nose in the first round and had him staggering at the bell, stated Keith Harrison of the Vernal Boxing Club. "Larry used his jab a couple of times with the bell rang to start the second round and then Larry hit Cook with a right uppercut and connected right on the button for a knockout 32 seconds into the second round. The victory improves Harrison's record to 34 wins and 21 losses. The eight year old fighter, Harrison, had gained eight TKO's and one knockout. Harrison added, "We heard that the - . t s I li "7' f ! Cook dropped his guard and Larry let him have it. The boxing fans were surprised because Cook hadn't lost a fight and he had a 12-0 record over two years." The Vernal Boxing Club officials will have a meeting on September 10 and a training program for the team will begin soon. "We will be getting our fighters ready for tournaments and-we will try to have some tourney's in Vernal," remarked Harrison. |
