Show Vic Karrens host Historical Society on Blue Mt. trek VERNAL SPECIAL Mr. Vic and Stella Karren, their daughter, Doris Burton and husband, Troy Burton, were hosts on a tour over Blue Mountain Moun-tain last Saturday for the Uintah Historical Society. The group of 44 members and other interested people left Vernal in 12 cars and the Uintah County bus chauffered by Erland Preece at 9 a.m. They visited Dinosaur Headquarters at Dinosaur, Colo., stopped at the scenic overlook above K Ranch, where Mr. Karren pointed out the place where serious-trouble existed between the Cattlemen and sheepmen in the early days, resulting in some deaths. The group then stopped at the old Red Onion schoolhouse location where nothing but a few red stones remain to attest to the existance of the schoolhouse. Vic then pointed out the ' various land holdings of the early settlers. They then traveled to the old Winter -quarters of the Karren family, where they had lunch. From there they traveled to the scenic overlook looking into the Yampa River Canyon and Dinosaur Park Wilderness area. The next stop was into Bear Valley where remains of the old school house and teacher dwelling was viewed. From there they visited the old Karren Ranch, now owned by Three Springs Ranch. Another feature included a visit to the Munford Beard Ranch to view one of the largest collections of mounted exotic animal specimens from all over the world. Those attending besides the hosts were; Mrs. Wanda Staley, president; Mr. and Mrs. A DeMar Dudley; Elva Bowthorpe; Mark Dickson; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Williams; Wels Pope; Erland Preece; Warren Richardson; Mr. and Mrs. George Long; Mr. and Mrs. Denver Long; Mrs. Flora Winn; Ross Snow and grandson, Greg Snow;' Hilda Morgan and grandson, Max Johns; Mrs. Esther Campbell; Mrs. Rhoda Stevens; Mr. and Mrs. George Wall; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Murray; Richard Murray; Howard Andrews, Roosevelt; Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Smtih, Neola; William Parrish, Neola; Mr. and Mrs. William Schaefermeyer, Hemmett, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schaefermeyer; Mr.- and Mrs. Raymond Searle; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Moore; Myrna Spaulding and Mrs. Art MacKnight. The next meeting of the society will be Tuesday, Sept. 9, featuring Mrs. Esther Campbell with a program on Brown's Park early history. |
