Show A walk-on at the Atlanta Falcons' training camp in Suwanee. Ga., this summer had one of the better lines heard on this planet, but it still didn't earn him a tryout. First, the candidate approached Falcons Coach Leeman Bennett. "When did you last play?" Bennett asked, taking in the man's ample firth and trying to be polite. "On which planet?" replied the interloper. "I've played on six planets. The last time on this one was in 1961." "Go see Bill Jobko," Bennett said quickly, sending the candidate to a falcons scout. And when the celestial fellow found Jobko, He pulled out the seal of a bottle and put it over one eye. "The toughest guys," he said to the scout, "are one-eyed guys. You know, like the pirates," The man was sent packing, but not before Tom Braatz, personnel director of the Falcons, could make another entry in the K file, for Krazies. Included in his collection is a 63-year-old clropkicker and a kicker who sent a poem to the Falcons, which said: "The halls of fame are open wide, and they are also full. Some go in doors called push, some go in by doors marked pull." |
