Show City says 'no' to McDonald's request The Vernal City Council said "no go" to a request from McDonald's to extend industrial revenue financing to their fast-food establishment in Vernal. Following a presentation by Paul Olsen from McDonald's the council echoed their previous decision to allow financing only to those businesses that want to locate in an area that would not be competing directly with existing business. The council said they may change their minds if a local McDonald's franchise fran-chise approaches them. According to Shane Luck, city manager, two other local firms have approached the city for financing. Each case will be presented to the council separately. Luck indicated that industrial revenue financing is used in other cities to attract industry that wouldn't otherwise other-wise come. The council felt that McDonald's would come to Vernal without financing because of anticipated an-ticipated growth. Olsen gave no indication indica-tion that his firm would be established in Vernal despite the council's action. The council also denied the rezoning of the Perkins and Hammond property at 290 West 500 North. About ten persons per-sons living around the property were present at the hearing to protest the rezoning. The residents protested the rezoning, which would allow 4-plexes near existing duplexes already on the site, because the owners haven't improved im-proved the existing duplexes as promised. pro-mised. Because of the property owners opposing the rezoning, the council denied it. The council approved the DeGraff and Ashton water extension request on East Highway 40. They also approved the Dave Rutger Business Park extension exten-sion on West Highway 40 and the Spring Creek Pond Subdivision waterline extension. |
