Show First day enrollment is up 5 in school district Enrollment for the first day of school Monday in Uintah district schools totaled 5,459 students, according to figures received at the district office. The first day enrollment total represents a 5 percent increase over last year's enrollment and the number will continue to further increase during the week, explained Dr. Wayne Reid, superintendent of schools. With normal growth we are increasing in-creasing about 6 percent a year in school enrollment, and this is without any extra industrial growth, Dr. Reid pointed out. Our school facilities are now all full and some are overcrowded. We must build more facilities to accommodate ac-commodate the natural growth in the district, Reid said. The student break-down of enrollment for the various schools in the district on the opening day of school is as follows: Uintah High School, 809; Union High School, 200; Vernal Junior High, 882; West Junior High, 254; Uintah learning Center, 74. Elementary schools in the district have the following distribution of students: Ashley, 505: Central, 377; Discovery, 618; Maeser, 596; Naples, 540; and Todd, 604. ' CENTRAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL students leave school after a long first day. Most students felt the first day wasn't bad, and others said they learned something. Summer ended and school began last Monday for over 5,459 students in the district. |
