The situation from the point of view of production Is said to be satisfactory satis-factory in every -way. Export orders for locomotives, car equipment and oil country coun-try goods are moving at a brisk rate. The demand for steel plates is reported heavier on account of car repair work here and a brik demand from Japan. Fig iron is likewise firmer and production produc-tion has gained. July output reached a level of 2.42S.641 gross tone, compared with a total of 2,114,863 gross tons in June. Both pi)? iron and steel are renorted as sliRhtly affected by the strike of railroad rail-road shopman. In the oopper market here, despite the statements from large interests to the effect that the price scale Is firm even in the midst of the present buying- lull, evidence evi-dence is Accumulo.t1n.fi: to show that speculative activity is more marked and that small lots of copper are beinar disposed dis-posed of at concessions approximating half a cent from the so-called established levels.
