Show OPENING OF IN STREET ASSURED I County Commissioners Authorize Au-thorize Obtaining Right of Way to Murray. The movement to open Mum street, from Twenty-first South street to Murray, Mur-ray, met with 'success -when the board of county commissioners, .at their meeting Friday, authorized steps to be taken to secure the complete right of -way. The commissioners accepted the tender of approximately ap-proximately &5 per. cent of the right of way from property owners in the district, and will at once proceed to secure the remainder by purchase. It is pointed out the opening of the right of way will give an opportunity for the rapid development of the district lying between Salt Lake and Murray as an attractive residence district. Heretofore Hereto-fore this has been held disadvantageous, because of the fact that there was no general highway through the section between be-tween State and "West Temple streets, and the property could not be easily platted. With such a hlghwav constructed con-structed the property can be easily laid out and made suitable for residence building. The added valuation for taxation purposes, pur-poses, it is declared, will far more than compensate the county for the expense of constructing the highway. An additional advantage is found in the fact that the traffic between Salt Lake and Murray will be divided instead of going aJrnost entirely over State street as at present. This will tend to greatly facilitate communication between the two cities. The remainder of the right of way to be secured belongs to small property owners who could not reasonably be expected ex-pected to donate their property for the right of way. It is understood, however, that the 15 per cent of the right of way remaining can be secured at a nominal figure. The plan to open the highway met with instant favor when it was first conceived. Property owners along Main street from Capitol hill to Twenty-first South, indorsed in-dorsed it. while the affiliated Commercial clubs of Salt Lake county and other civic bodies, together with hundreds of citizens of Bingham, Murray. Sandy, Midvaie and Salt Lake gave it approval. The distance to be opened Is about 4.2 miles. The project will, it fs understood, go forward as rap. illy as possible. |
