Show SON NAD ON STATE BOARD Appointed to Succeed Jen-: Jen-: kins as Industrial Commissioner. f "Walter P. Monson, until recently president pres-ident or" the eastern states mission of the Mormon church, was yesterday appointed ap-pointed a member of the state industrial indus-trial commission, to succeed Harrison E. Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins has resigned, effective ef-fective September . Mr. Monson 's appointment was indorsed in-dorsed by the Utah Associated Industries, Indus-tries, representing the employers of the state, and in this way indirectly by the State Federation of Labor. The execu-! tive council of the federation, considering consid-ering the matter after the resignation of Mr. Jenkins was announced, took the attitude that the wishes of the employer should be considered in the selection of his successor. The council held that three elements should be represented on the industrial commission the em-plover, em-plover, the employee and the public William M. Knerr is now the employees' representative, and Chairman P". A. Thatcher is regarded as the representative representa-tive of the public. In view or the indorsement in-dorsement of Mr. Monson by the employers em-ployers through their organization, the position of the labor federation is carried car-ried out in his appointment. Mr. Monson also Is the Republican member of the commission, the other two bein- Democrats. The new member of the commission has been an important figure in the missionary mis-sionary field for the L. D. S. church since he was a younj? man, when he served on a mission m the northwestern northwest-ern states. For two years he was oresi-dent, oresi-dent, of the London conference of the European mission, and after the death of Ben E. Rich was appointed president of the eastern states mission, from whicn he was recently released. Mr. Monson was the organizer of the Superior Lumber company of Preston, Idaho, and also was manager of the Eccles Lumber company in Oden for some time. |
